Update on the Favorite Dive Operator Campaign

Update on the Favorite Dive Operator Campaign

We started the voting for your “favorite dive operator” in the Cayman Islands last Monday, February 2, 2015 and we couldn’t be happier with the response.

The dive industry has always been quirky in that most dive operators are very passionate about their company and mad skillz. And they have every right to be because the Cayman Islands is probably the best dive destination in the world. In keeping with that theme, only the best dive operators can be found here.

We are happy to announce that the top ten favorite dive companies will automatically get a featured link on the landing page, “Top Ten Dive Operators in the Cayman Islands” — this page can be found when searching Google for “cayman islands dive operators” (and permutations thereof), which gets an average of 70 searches per month. Not bad, not bad for a free link.

Today is the 3rd full day of the campaign and in only 3 days we have had over 15k Users check out the page (Pageviews)

Our Real Time User count was on an all time high at an average of 25 users voting per hour on an 8 hour work day. These were actual users who clicked and voted (if you count the votes out you will notice the number of votes tally to around 600, give or take a margin of error of about 10 votes)

We want to thank everyone who shared the post. It was shared over 60 times from 4 different Facebook Social Media accounts including Easy Websites, I LOVE Cayman, Destination Cayman and one that went directly to the website. The posts were liked over 1,300 times on Facebook and tweeted over 20 times on Twitter.

This was by far one of the most successful online campaign we have ever run because our acquisition cost is, per vote, is US$ 0.25 cents and our pageview cost is $0.01 which is negligible. We were able to promote an industry worth promoting without hurting our pockets. We are happy with that because we did not get paid to run this contest. This is a free service that we provide so we can get a pulse of the Users favorite dive company. It would have been easier for us to just write an article of top ten favorite dive companies. Quite a few online publishers just provide a subjective list of who they think are worthy. As a diver, I would have been able to come up with that list but we wanted to provide an objective article and not one that was subjected to just one person’s experience. I had written a previous blog, a sort of disclaimer about not having updated the business listing because we needed your support with that and quite a few dive companies contacted us and happily provided the information. Thank you to everyone who reached out to us.

Tomorrow is the last day to vote and voting will end at exactly 5pm. We will tally the points and then announce the top ten favorite dive companies by Monday, Feb. 9, 2015. We will also get in touch with the winners to ask them to update their profiles on destination.ky

The cycle will start back up around the same time next year. Next month we are going to run a different industry so stay tuned for that.
